Indonesian cement producer PT Semen Gresik Tbk plans to acquire a majority stake in Vietnam-based Thang Long Cement JSC, according to Investor Daily. PT Semen Gresik plans to issue US$150m of global bonds in 2013 to finance its plan to buy a smaller rival in Southeast Asia, Reuters reported the company’s CEO Dwi Sutjipto saying. PT Semen Gresik has lost market share in the first half of this year due to production growth being slower than increases in Indonesian consumption.  In the first half of the year, state-owned Gresik sold 10.3Mt of cement, up 12 per cent YoY, and accounting for 39.7 per cent of Indonesia’s total cement sales.
